Originally, the Pittsburgh Travel Aid, pghtrav.html, now pittsburghtravelaid.com, was designed and constructed by Thomas M. Salerno, Clarion University 1972, and his son Scott Salerno B.S. Computer Science Covenant College 2004, back in June 1996 prior to the explosion of commercial internet sites. The site was originally constructed as a public service site. The second page, Pittsburgh Highway Project, pghproj.html, offering Highway Project Construction Information, around Pittsburgh, began in the Fall of 1996, and was received with exceptional reviews. Both sites, offline since August 2002, following a residential move, has been un-maintained since September 28, 2000. Unfortunately, periodically, the counters from the original sites may be disconnected. Traffic at both sites grew rapidly. We received approximately 10 requests each week for "Free Direction Requests". Due to the unexpected employment changes we were unable handle the growing volume of requests at that time. We also offered a third page, Crossroads, which was a forum for theological debate. Debates were conducted in chat sessions and became highly contentious and spiritually enlightening.
Since the demand for the specific type of information we offered has increased, we have been afforded the opportunity to commercialize the site.
